Analisis Perkembangan Optical Ethernet
Abstract
An early version of Ethernet was released in 1975 and was designed to connect 100 computers at 2.94 Mbps over 1 kilometer of cable. Optical Ethernet is an Ethernet-based computer network with fiber optic cable as the transmission media. Applications of optical Ethernet are Gigabi Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ehternet. IEEE standardized Gigabit Ethernet in 1998 under the name IEEE 802.3z and 10 Gigabit Ethernet in 2000 under the name 208.3ae. Optical Ethernet is identical to an Ethernet-based LAN with the exception of physical layer interfaces. The fundamental difference between LAN and WAN layers in 10 gigabit Ethernet is that in the WAN architecture there are Wan Interface Sublayer (WIS) as the development of the use of WAN on Optical Ethernet.
