Abstract

Compression is the process of changing a set of data into a form of code to save storage space requirements and time for data transmission. Currently there are various types of compression algorithms, including: Huffman, LIFO, ZHUF, LZ77 and its variants (LZ78, LZW, GZIP), Dynamic Markov Compression (DMC), Run-Length Compression application, from one type to another, of course is a refinement of the previous types. For example against text / binary data (zip), images (JPEG, PNG, TIFF), audio (MP3, AAC, RMA, WMA), and video (MPEG, H261, H263). The development of data compression, will support the development of multimedia and further multimedia will support the development of ICT. These three elements are synergetic, so that their development can be said to be unlimited. Of course it is expected that in the future data compression will have a high speed, a small (output / input) ratio and an easy algorithm, so that it can support multimedia and at the same time long distance communication becomes more real (as if without distance)
